Xavier opened the 1996 season unranked, then went 23-6, took the A-10 West division and landed at #13 in in the final AP Poll. Ask any Musketeers fan about that run and the talk turns to one afternoon in the Crosstown Shootout, when Lenny Brown buried a last-second shot to knock off #1 Cincinnati.
"Nobody thought that Xavier had a chance. UC went into the game rated No. 1 almost across the board," said Andy MacWilliams, then the play-by-play announcer for Xavier's radio team.
Brown's own account is just as good. "I dribbled to my left maybe two or three times, thinking 'What the heck am I going to do?' Then I realized the time was getting short. I just made a crossover and I pulled up," he said.
