Byron Larkin carried the 1986-87 Xavier Musketeers, a high scoring junior averaging 25 points per game. A run through the MCC Tournament, with wins over Butler, Loyola and Saint Louis, put the Musketeers in the NCAA Tournament as a #13 seed in the Midwest.
Head coach Pete Gillen watched Larkin drop 29 points in that first game, and Xavier University came away with its first ever NCAA Tournament win, 70-69 over #4 seed Missouri. The Round of 32 brought #5 seed Duke and a loss, but the foundation for what came next was already laid. Grab these dark blue basketball shorts before Xavier's next big run.
