Sam Mack and Craig Upchurch carried Pat Foster's 1991-1992 Houston Cougars. Those two seniors put up better than 32 points and 12 rebounds a game between them. Junior Bo Outlaw chipped in, and the Cougars finished 22-5 to claim the SWC regular season championship.
An NCAA bid was still up in the air, so Houston had to win the SWC tournament. Three wins followed, over SMU, TCU and then Texas, and the ticket was punched.
In the Midwest Region they drew the #10 seed and fell 65-60 to #7 seed Georgia Tech.
