A top 10 preseason ranking and one of the country's best players walked into the 2005-2006 season with Gonzaga. Adam Morrison was coming off a strong sophomore year and then lit up college basketball, averaging 28.1 ppg to lead the nation while the Zags went 27-3 in the regular season.
As the #3 seed in the Oakland Region, the WCC champs edged Xavier 79-75, then beat Indiana 90-80 to reach the Sweet 16. UCLA, the #2 seed, ended the run.
Morrison still took home Naismith National Player of the Year and consensus First Team All-American honors. Mark Few put it plainly: "When Adam came along he turned us into a national brand."
