Gonzaga arrived in 1998-1999 under Dan Monson, and the country noticed. Richie Frahm and Matt Santangelo led the Bulldogs to a 25-6 regular season and a 10-seed in the West Region, and the ride stopped only in the Elite 8 against eventual champion UConn.
Minnesota, a 7-seed, went down in the opener. Then 2-seed Stanford got upset, which sent the Zags to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. Casey Calvary tipped one in with 4.4 seconds left to beat Florida and push them into the Elite 8.
UConn won that game. Gonzaga hasn't been an underdog story since.
