Georgia Tech came into 2003-2004 unranked, fresh off a 16-15 year under Paul Hewitt. Then the Yellow Jackets won 12 in a row to start the season and sat at #3 in in the polls before New Year's Day. They closed the regular season 22-8, and a win over #16 North Carolina in the ACC Tournament bumped their seeding up.
From the #3 spot in the St. Louis Region, they edged Northern Iowa and Boston College to reach the Sweet 16. Nevada fell next. Kansas was all that stood between GT and the Final Four, and the Yellow Jackets took it 79-71. San Antonio came next, where they finished one game shy of the national title.
