Billy Donovan's Gators started the 1999-2000 campaign ranked inside the Top 10, and with Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem and Donnell Harvey on the floor they went 24-7. Their reward was a #5 seed and a first-round date with the toughest #12 around, Butler. Mike Miller's buzzer beater in OT turned it into an instant classic.
From there Florida rolled: #4 Illinois, #1 Duke, #3 Oklahoma State, all beaten on the way to the Final Four. Teddy Dupay traces it all back to that Butler game. "It was amazing, oh my God. It ignited everything."
A win over #8 North Carolina put UF in their first ever National Championship game, where #1 Michigan State won 89-76. Even in defeat the 2000 team is credited with creating the winning foundation that would lead Donovan and the Gators to back to back National Championships in 2006 and 2007.
