Watching Derrick Rose's first few seasons was like sitting through a tasting menu in real time. Going number one overall to his hometown team? That was the hors d'oeuvres. The '09 ROY trophy came next, an All-Star nod as a sophomore followed, and gold at the 2010 FIBA World Cup landed as the main course. Dessert turned out to be the sweetest part of all: Rose became the youngest MVP in League history, a distinction that still stands in 2026.
SLAM 143 reached shelves in December 2010, and that MVP award only became official in May of 2011. By then, the whole League had already caught the scent. Back in October of 2010, Rose had put a few questions to the media:
“The way I look at it, why can’t I be the MVP of the League? Why can’t I be the best player in the League? I don’t see why not. I work hard, I dedicate myself to the game and sacrifice a lot of things at a young age, and I know, if I continue to do good what I can get out of it.”
A three-star Michelin establishment, born and raised in Chicago, starring at the Madhouse on Madison for all the Chi to see.
