Nolan Richardson's Arkansas Razorbacks opened the 1989-1990 season ranked inside the Top 10. A trio of sophomores — Todd Day, Lee Mayberry and Oliver Miller — carried the load, and Arkansas swept the SWC regular season and conference tournament to close out at 26-4.
The Midwest Region gave them the #4 seed. Princeton and Dayton fell in tight games, pushing the Razorbacks into the Sweet 16 against North Carolina. A 23 point win came first, then a 3 point result over Texas in the regional final, and Arkansas was in the Final 4.
Duke won that last one. Still, Richardson and his team had shown they were here to stay, and so was "40 Minutes of Hell."
"It didn't matter where we played you, we were going to get after it. Full court, half court, three-quarter court, it doesn't really matter. We were going to attack you on both ends."
-Nolan Richardson, Head Coach
