Hank Raymonds took Marquette to 20-11 in the 1980-1981 season and into the National Invitational Tournament, where Syracuse knocked them out in the first round. The season's real highlight came in early January, when the fifth ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish came to town.

Raymonds, emotional afterwards: "He's not afraid. He wanted it. I said it all along that he wasn't afraid to take the last shot. That's my freshman All-American. He put it in."
