Antall:
There's a side of Kevin Garnett the cameras kept missing. Fair enough. The bugged-out eyes were hard to ignore, same with the pulsing neck veins and the gallons of sweat flying off his head. Nobody could tune out the constant trash talk either, lines so clever that Billy Shakespeare would've taken notes.
Underneath it sat the part that doesn't get discussed enough: KG's heart.
Not heart in the hopeless romantic sense, pining after unrequited love.
Heart as desire.
Heart as passion.
Heart as competitiveness.
Heart as ob-fu*&ing-session.
He N-E-E-D-E-D to win a chip. His body looked restless on the court, sure, but his soul without a ring was worse, flying figure eights around those nonstop feet at 1,000 miles per hour.
Celtics landed KG in July of 2007. December '07 put him on the cover of SLAM 113, and June of '08 he raised the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
On the parquet floor, mid-celebration of his first NBA title, the heart came out. "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!" he shouted.
You can't look past that aspect of Garnett anymore. In the end it became what he's known for most: heart.
