A midseason stumble didn't stop Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets put together a late-season run and sealed it by beating North Carolina, Duke and Virginia to win the ACC Tournament. Then came a four-game sweep of the NCAA Southeast Regional, which left the Yellow Jackets at 28-6 — the best record a Tech team had ever posted.
Tech's offense that year ran through "Lethal Weapon 3," which averaged 78 percent of the team's points.
Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver each averaged more than 20 points a game, a combined 69.6. Never before in the 36-year history of the ACC had three players on one team averaged 20 or more per game.
The Regional championship in New Orleans was the high point. Against Minnesota, a 93-91 win, Scott scored 40, Anderson 30 and Oliver 19 — 89 of Tech's 93 points, on 52 of 56 shots.
All season, critics wondered when the three-on-five game would run out of steam. It never did, not until "Lethal Weapon 3" and its supporting cast met Nevada-Las Vegas for a spot in the national championship game — a scenario few would have believed possible for Tech when the season began.
