Skip Prosser's 2003-2004 Demon Deacons squad was young, and deep with talent. A Top 10 recruit named Chris Paul joined a core that already had Justin Gray, Eric Williams, Jamaal Levy, Trent Strickland and Taron Downey.
Wake opened the year at #20 in in the AP Poll. An eleven game win streak — capped by a triple-overtime classic at #4 North Carolina — pushed the Demon Deacons to #4 in in the country. They closed the regular season 19-9.
In the NCAA Tournament they took the #4 seed in the East Rutherford Region and drew #13 VCU in round one. Paul scored 22 and WF survived the Rams' upset bid, 79-78. He carried them again in the second round against #12 Manhattan with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
The run ended in the Sweet 16, where #1 Saint Joseph's beat the Demon Deacons 84-80.
