Nolan Richardson's Razorbacks opened the 1993-1994 season at #3 in in the AP Poll. Corliss Williamson, Corey Beck, Scotty Thurman and the rest of the roster held a top-1 in ranking for 9 weeks, rolling to 25-3 in the regular season and the SEC regular season crown. That resume earned them the #1 seed in the Midwest Region.
Georgetown, Tulsa and #3 seed Michigan all fell before Arkansas reached the Final Four for the second time under Richardson. A win over #2 seed Arizona set up the National Championship meeting with Grant Hill, Coach K and Duke. What followed was an instant classic.
Tied 70-70 with a minute to go, Dwight Stewart hit Scotty Thurman on the right wing, and Thurman lofted a rainbow 3 over Antonio Lang's outstretched arm. That shot put Richardson's "40 Minutes of Hell" style permanently into NCAA Tournament lore.
"Dwight Stewart made the most unselfish play in our program's history. I get the accolades and the recognition of making the shot, but had he not bobbled the ball he probably would have taken it. He probably would have made it, too." — Scotty Thurman, Arkansas Forward
