New York City belonged to St. John's in 1985. Local talent, a Hall of Fame coach, and a roster that had Chris Mullin, Walter Berry, Bill Wennington and Mark Jackson running with Lou Carnesecca to a No. 1 ranking and the 1985 Final Four.
That group was part of the historic 1985 Final Four featuring three Big East teams. Georgetown knocked out St. John's in the national semifinals, then lost to Villanova in the title game — still the only time one conference has sent three teams that far.
"There have been a lot of great teams at St. John's. That was a team that if it didn't get to the Final Four, it would have been a disappointment. A lot of people expected us to go."
-Head Coach Lou Carnesecca
