Georgia Tech stumbled midseason, then put together the run that defined the year. The Yellow Jackets beat North Carolina, Duke and Virginia to take the ACC Tournament title, then swept the four games of the NCAA Southeast Regional. That left them at 28-6, the best record a Tech team had ever posted.
Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott and Brian Oliver did most of the damage. All three averaged better than 20 points a game, 69.6 combined, and no ACC team in 36 years had put three 20-point scorers on the same roster. Fans called the trio "Lethal Weapon 3," and the offense ran through them for about 78 percent of Tech's points.
The peak came in New Orleans, where Tech beat Minnesota 93-91 for the Regional crown. Scott had 40, Anderson 30, Oliver 19: 89 of the team's 93 points, on 52 of its 56 shots. Critics kept waiting for the three-on-five approach to fall apart. It held until UNLV in the national semifinal.
